CNI Thermal Hazard Concerns
Due to the thermal hazards associated with handling CNI there are key concerns covering:
Heat Hazard
Heat input from any source is dangerous
Sources of heat include:
– Chemical reaction with incompatible materials
– Pumps overheating
– Heating systems, internal or external.
– Thermal radiation from fire
Fire Hazard
Radiant heat from surrounding fires can heat up tanks and pipelines containing CNI
Apply deluge water onto storage tank walls to keep the product cool (15 litre/minute/m2 of exposed tank surface
Spray fire water at the required rate should be available for 2 – 6 hours
Drums and IBC’s should be immediately cooled by spraying firewater from a fixed deluge
