PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP AWARENESS TRAINING
CNI Control Measures
As with all hazardous operations key control measures should be in place to minimise potential incidents:
Pumping
Best practice is to use equipment that does not have the potential to heat the product
Pneumatically operated diaphragm pumps provide safe means of unloading to storage tanks and injecting into gas-oil headers
If a Centrifugal pump is used it must be fitted with a temperature trip set to stop the pump at a temperature of 55°C
Pumping Operations
All types of pumps must have the following:
Temperature trip to stop pump @ 50-60ºC (75 deg C subject to an expert risk assessment may be possible)
Pressure switch to stop pump if outlet is blocked/closed
Low flow switch to stop pump if outlet is blocked/closed
Heating of Equipment
Tanks fitted with internal heating coils, limpet coils, trace heating etc should NOT be used
Completely REMOVE all heating systems through physical means e.g. (removal of pipework, cables etc so it cannot be accidentally re-activated)
Piping/lines/hoses/pumps should NOT be trace heated
Lines should not be close to steam lines
