In addition to key Shell experimental work, controlled drum burning tests have been carried out, their conclusions are that:
2EHN does not detonate but high pressure (pneumatic) bursting of drum occurs
High energy release (2,100 J/g)
200 Litre CNI drum: pneumatic explosion after 12 minutes
Heavy pieces thrown up and carried considerable distances – One metallic piece (4.7 kg) thrown 36 m
Fire ball formation and high thermal radiation
