Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a colorless, highly toxic and corrosive substance gas that is naturally occurring in crude oil and commonly produced as a by-product in oilfield production applications and refinery processes. According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), H2S is immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH) at a concentration of 100 ppm.
