Innospec’s Oilfield Services Business Unit is pleased to announce the expansion of its international oilfield portfolio to include the intermediates chemical sector. This expansion follows recent growth in our Europe & Middle East regions.
In 2017, Innospec Inc. completed an acquisition of a European diversified surfactants business, which included alkoxylation, amidation/esterification, and sulfonation capabilities. Since then, we have worked closely with many chemical trade associations to ensure our products remain compliant with both national and regional regulations. In 2019, six key oilfield base surfactants were given CEFAS registration while one of our imidazoline products achieved REACH registration.
With regulatory and safety initiatives now a mainstay in the oil and gas industry, chemical development has often been restricted to adapting chemistry from other industries. However, at Innospec, we take a different approach by designing molecules for their specific applications. For more than 80 years, Innospec has specialized in the design and manufacture of highly functional chemistries specific to oilfield operations. Our products are used in a variety of applications throughout the oil production process — from production chemicals such as scale inhibitors, paraffin, and asphaltene dispersants, foaming agents to drilling and cementing additives, and wellbore cleaners to completion products necessary to re-connect the well to the reservoir. In addition, Innospec offers flexible synthesis and plant capabilities (sulfonation, ethoxylation, esterification) enabling us to customize surfactants and solvents for applications that even include Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) formulations.
“We are excited to increase our offering of base materials to expand our footprint in the international market.” says Jaime de los Santos, Executive Vice President – Oilfield Services. “This is our opportunity to introduce our flexible synthesis and plant capabilities, which allows us to customize components, and we already have plans to expand this product portfolio.”
“We see the growth trends leaning to ensuring sustainable, cost-effective materials for a wide range of oilfield applications, and we are confident both our technical and manufacturing teams will exceed those expectations.” Says Simon Kirby, Director – Oilfield Intermediates.
